Two Habiganj Razakars Mohibur Rahman alias Boro Miah, 65, and his cousin Abdur Razzak, 63, yesterday filed appeals against the verdict of The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 that had sentenced Mohibur to death and Razzak to imprisonment until natural death for war crimes.
"They filed the appeals with the concerned department of the Appellate Division with Joynul Abedin Tuhin as their advocate on record," said M Masud Rana, who moved their case before the tribunal.
Earlier, on June 1, the ICT-1 handed down death penalty to Mohibur and sentenced his younger brother Mozibur Rahman alias Angur Miah, 60, and paternal cousin Razzak to imprisonments until death for committing crimes against humanity during 1971 Liberation War at their neighbourhood in Habiganj district. Today, however, only Mohibur and Razzak filed the appeals against their sentences. They sought acquittal on 10 grounds in 28-page appeal.
The tribunal had indicted the trio on September 29, 2015, four months after the prosecution submitted formal charge against them for their 1971 war crimes, raising a gang of Razakars at Baniachang upazila of Habiganj to oppose the country's independence by siding with Pakistani troops.
