The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has already started its 14-day-long Eid special service.
“This special service will continue for 14 days, covering both pre- and post-Eid periods,” BIWTC chairman Mizanur Rahman told The Independent yesterday.
The special service has already started from June 29 on the Dhaka-Chandpur-Barisal-Khulna inland shipping route, he said, adding that ultramodern luxury vessel MV Bangali and MV Modhumati will ply on this riverine route till July 10.
“We’re in continuous communication with field-level employees and officials across the country. We’ve completed all preparations to ensure smooth journey for homebound passengers through the waterways,” the BIWTC chairman said.
Adequate measures have also been taken to ensure security for the passengers, he added.
“Our officials are keeping vigil to prevent black-marketing of tickets. Besides, they will also monitor overloading of launches to avoid any untoward incident,” he added.
Rahman further said that luxurious vessels like PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Turn, and PS Mahmud will be operated on various shipping routes on the occasion of Eid. The authorities concerned may extend the special service, if necessary, he added.
The state-run BIWTC will also run extra trips beside regular trips ON THE Chittagong- Hatia- Sandeep- Barisal shipping routes from July 2 to July 9, BIWTC sources said.
MV Baro Aulia, MV Motin and MV Monirul Haq will operate in the coastal areas.
