Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said Bangladesh and Denmark could expand their ties with particular emphasis on cooperation in areas like shipbuilding, agriculture and food processing, report agencies.
"There're many areas through which the two countries could further strengthen cooperation. We could share Danish experience in Bangladesh's shipbuilding sector," she said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks when Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Hanne Fugl Eskjaer paid a farewell call on her at her Jatiya Sangsad office in the capital. After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
The premier told the Danish envoy that Bangladesh was now putting emphasis on food processing with an aim to boost its export of processed agricultural products.
Eskjaer, on the other hand, agreed with the proposition saying food processing was a major area of expanded relations between Dhaka and Copenhagen with setting of such plants in Bangladesh.
"We could not develop the country ignoring the womenfolk, which constitutes half of the population," Sheikh Hasina said pointing out the growing participation of women in all spheres of the state.
"They are performing very well in cricket and football apart from other disciplines of sports," she said.
Pointing out her government success in health sector development, Sheikh Hasina said community health clinics were set up across the country to reach healthcare to the people's doorsteps.
"The people are now receiving healthcare services through mobile phone," she said.
