A Habiganj tribunal yesterday accepted a charge-sheet against eight people in connection with the killings of four children at Sundratiki village in Bahubal upazila of the district, reports UNB. Passing the order, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Kiron Shankar Haldar fixed July 25 for the next hearing. Besides, the tribunal rejected the bail petitions of five charge sheeted accused.
It also turned down the pleas of Rubel Miah, a charge sheeted accused in the case, for canceling the medical certificate provided by a physician for determining his age.
Five accused -- Abdul Ali alias Bagal, his son Rubel Miah, Jewel Miah,
Habibur Rahman Arju and Sahed Ali alias Sayed -- were produced before the court during the hearing while the tribunal acquitted three more accused-Saleh Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed and auto-rickshaw driver Bachchu Miah, who was killed during a gunfight with Rab, from the charges as no evidence was found against them.
Abul Hashem Mollah Masum, a counsel for the state, said the tribunal also issued a warrant for the arrest of three charge-sheeted accused -- Ustar Miah, Belal Miah and Babul Miah -- as they remained absconding for long.
Of the charge-sheeted accused, Rubel Miah claimed himself immature but following the medical certificate his age was determined at 19/20, Masum said.
Earlier on May 25, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) pressed charges against eight people in connection with the killing of four children in Bahubal upaizla of Habiganj distict.
Four schoolboys who had gone missing from Sundrateki village in Bahubal upazila on February 12
were found buried at the village on February 17.
Informed by locals, police recovered the bodies of Zakaria Ahmed Shuvo, 8, son of Wahid Miah, his two cousins --Tajel Miah, 10, son of Abdul Aziz, Monir Miah, 7, son of Abdal Miah -- and Ismail Hossain, 10, son of Abdul Quadir.
