A court yesterday sentenced two members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) each in an explosive case. The convicted JMB men are Kamrul Hassan, 36, of Hajipur Kumargati village in Jamalpur sadar upazila and Habibur Rahman Yusuf, 31, of South Modhyapara village in Sarishabari upazila of the district. According to prosecution, on March 21 in 2007 at night police raided Bhatara Bazaar area under Sarishabari upazila to arrest JMB men- Kamrul Hassan and Habibur Rahman Yusuf. At that moment the JMB members hurled grenades on the police and tried to flee, but police was able to arrest them with the help of local people. Police recovered two live grenades from their possession. Later, police filed a case and after inquiry and investigation submitted charge sheet against them. After examining the witnesses and relevant documents, Joint District Judge Fatema Imroz Khonika found them guilty and handed down the judgment. The Tribunal also fined them Tk 5, 000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
