Worker killed in road crash
A female worker of a readymade garments (RMG) factory was killed in a road accident in Bashan area of Gazipur city on Monday night.
The deceased was Rozina Akter, 30, a worker of Alif Garments factory in Vogra area of Gazipur city.
Sub-inspector of Joydebpur police station Mohammed Firoz Uddin said Rozina was returning home from workplace on Monday evening. The accident took place when a Dhaka-bound private car hit Rozina in the area while she was crossing the Dhaka-Mymensing Highway, leaving her critically injured. Locals rescued her from the spot and sent to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for treatment. As her condition was deteriorated, she was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She died on the way to hospital at Monday night.
However, the locals detained the private car driver Shahid Mia and handed him over police immediate after the incident.
3 held with 1.4 lakh yaba tablets
Police arrested three youths along with 1.40 lakh yaba tablets from Mirer Bazar area of Gazipur city early yesterday.
They were identified as Amir Hossain, 27, Mohammed Liton Mia,29, and his brother Mohammed Titon Miah,23.
Superintendent of Gazipur police Mohammed Harun Or Rashid at a press briefing at his office said police stopped a Gazipur-bound betel leaf-laden pick-up van in the area yesterday morning for its suspicious movement. Later, they found 1.40 lakh yaba tablets in several Betel leaf’s pots made by bamboo. Later, police held the three youths along with the contraband tablets which came from Cox’s Bazar.
BCL leader arrested in Sylhet
Police in a drive arrested the general secretary of Sylhet district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Mirabazar area of Sylhet city Monday night.
The arrested BCL leader was identified as Ali Hossain.
Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a team of Police arrested him from Mirabazar area around 10.30pm.
He was accused in two cases with the police station. Besides, local people formed a human chain in five areas of the city on June 9 against demanding and end to his oppression in the areas.
Man held with fake notes
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a man along with fake currency notes from main gate of the Circuit House in Sylhet city on Monday night.
The arrestee was identified as Abul Bashar Tuhin, 45, son of late Ai Haider, a resident of Tajpur village in Osmaninagar upazila.
Ziaul Haque, assistant director of Rab-9, said a team of the elite force arrested him from the area around 10.30pm along with 50 forged notes of Tk 1000 denomination.
Later the arrestee was handed over to Kotowali Police Station.
