Ahsania Mission gets first prize in drug rehab

Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), a private sector development organisation, received first prize for their outstanding contribution in drug treatment and rehabilitation in the country, said a DAM press release in the capital yesterday, reports BSS.
The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) selected Dhaka Ahsania Mission for the award considering the healthy environment of the treatment centers, specialist doctors, professional staffs, modern and evidence based treatment approach and other facilities for the clients.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present as chief guest at the prize giving ceremony and handed over the prize to Iqbal Masud Deputy Director and Head, health sector of DAM at Osmani Memorial Auditorium here yesterday.
The award was announced marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking. A crest, certificate and TK 30,000 have been given as prize money.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Home Affairs Ministry Tipu Munshi, MP, and senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan were present as special guests on the occasion.
Director General of Department of Narcotics Control Khandaker Rakibur Rahman delivered the welcome address in the progremme. DAM has been implementing anti-drug activities since 1990 and providing evidence based drug treatment service to drug users since 2004. At present, DAM is operating three drug treatment and rehabilitation centers in Gazipur and Jessore for male drug users and Dhaka for female drug users.
