‘Water logging to end after approval of detailed project proposal’

Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmood yesterday said the work on implementation of the Taka 536.60 crore Bangladesh Water Development Board project for a permanent solution to the water logging problem and development of drain-out system in Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) area will begin soon after approval of the project, reports BSS.
He made the assertion in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Sanjida Khanam of Dhaka.
“We have prepared a detailed project proposal (DPP) titled- Development of Drain out System in Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) Area Phase-2,” Anisul Islam said.
The minister informed the House that an appraisal meeting in this regard was held at the ministry on April 5, 2016.
As per the decision of the meeting, the DPP is now pending with the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) for approval, he said. Replying to another question from treasury bench member Jahan Ara Begum Surma, Anisul Islam Mahmood said the BWDB implemented 81 projects in the last seven years of the present government.
He said the government is relentlessly working for management and development of water resources specially flood control and river erosion across the country.
