A tribunal in the capital yesterday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for raping a three-year old girl in the capital’s Mohammadpur in 2014.
The convict was identified as M Siddiqur Rahman, 40, son of late Khorshed Ali, a resident of Barguna district.
According to the case statement, a group of children, including the victim, were playing in front of their house at Mohammadpur on April 12, 2014. Siddiqur used to work as a caretaker at a house adjacent to that house.
At one stage, Siddiqur picked up the victim, took her to his room and raped her, leaving the minor injured.
Later, the girl returned to her house and informed her mother about the matter.
Her mother took her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Following this, victim’s father filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station against Siddiqur. On June 4, 2014, Sub-inspector of Mohmmadpur Police Station M Firoz Ahmed, also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted charge-sheet to the court.
