PrangoneMor, one of the vibrant theatre troupes in Bangladesh, will stage two of its plays ‘Swadeshi’ and ‘Ami O Rabindranath’ at a theatre festival in Kolkata. The event--featuring notable plays from Bangladesh and Kolkata--will be held from July 1 to 10.
On the occasion of the 32nd death anniversary of Niva Devi and 25th founding anniversary of Niva Arts, the 10-day theatre festival has been organised featuring prominent plays by 14 female directors.
DhakaLive has news that led by Nuna Afroz, 14-member team of PrangoneMor will leave for Kolkata on July 1 to attend the festival.
PrangoneMor’s new Tagore play titled ‘Ami O Rabindranath’, scripted and directed by Nuna Afroz, will be staged on July 2 at 6:30pm, while Nuna Afroz-directed ‘Swadeshi’ will be staged at 3pm on the same day.
The play ‘Ami O Rabindranath’ depicts Tagore’s life and works through an eye of his devoted reader. In the story of the play, Athoi visits the famous Shilaidaha Kuthibari (former residence of Bengal’s most celebrated poet, Rabindranath Tagore) in Kushtia along with her friends. There, she begins to explore Kuthibari and begins to ascend the steps of the staircase. Suddenly, Rabindranath himself appears before her. He offers to show Athoi around Kuthibari. In a trance, Athoi completely loses focus from her friends and reality. She begins speaking to Rabindranath. A 29-year-old, 69-year-old, 21-year-old and also 80-year-old Rabindranath appears before Athoi. With the images of all different ages, the writer discusses his work and phases of the different times of his life with Athoi. With Tagore’s various transformations in age, Athoi also begins to transform in age. Different aspects of Rabindranath’s life are shared through the different phases portrayed in the play.
The cast of the play includes Ananta Hira, Ramiz Raju, Awal Reza, Saroar Saikat, Touhid Biplob and Nuna Afroz, among others. Musical arrangement has been done by Ramiz Raju, while Touhid Rabin did the lighting design.
On the other hand, PrangoneMor’s second production ‘Swadeshi’ has been made based on the novel of Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Char Oddhay’. Scripted and directed by Nuna Afroz, the cast of the play includes Ananta Hira, Sisir Rahman, Ekram Mahfuj, Mainul Tawhid, Ramiz Razu, Abu Hayat Jasim, and Sarwar Alam Saikat.
