Housewife electrocuted
JESSORE: A house wife was electrocuted at her home in Sharsha upazila of the district on Sunday night, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Hira Begum, 35, wife of one Abdul Majid. Locals said Hira Begum was electrocuted when she came in touch with a live electric wire of a TV dish line in her bedroom at 8:30 pm.
Hira Begum’s son Rohan, 10, was also seriously injured while he approached to save his mother. Local UP member Ahsan Habib confirmed the incident.
Relatives and locals rushed them to a local clinic in critical condition where on duty doctors declared Hira Begum dead.
One crushed under truck
Panchagarh: A union parishad (UP) secretary was killed as a truck ran over him at Chaklahat UP in Sadar upazila on Sunday evening, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Md Kabul Hossain, 39, a resident of Daulatpara village of Tetulia upazila.
Md Forhad Hossain, chairman of Chaklahat UP said, Kabul was supervising the unloading of VGF rice from the truck at the UP office premises around 7.30pm.
Suddenly, as the truck went back, Kabul was crushed under the truck. Critically injured, he was rushed to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
Indian goods worth Tk 2.6cr seized
Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized Indian goods worth TK 2.60 crore on Jessore-Benapole highway in Amrakhali area of Benapole on Sunday night, reports UNB.
Lt Col Mohammad Jahangir Hossain of BGB battalion-26 said on secret information, a team of the border guards conducted the drive in the area around 10.30pm and seized two covered vans.
Later, they recovered motor parts, electronic parts and jewelry ornaments worth TK 2.60 crore from the covered vans. The seized goods were deposited at Jessore customs godown. A divisional case was filed in this connection.
CI sheet distributed
NATORE: Natore Sadar Upazila Parishad distributed cash Taka and corrugated iron sheet (tin) among 52 distress families of Natore upazila yesterday afternoon, reports BSS.
Sadar Upazila Administration organized the programme on its premises.
Md. Shafiqul Islam Shimul, MP, and General Secretary of Natore District Awami League distributed the money and tin among the families as the chief guest. Md. Khairuzzaman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) was in the chair. Each of the 52 families got Taka 6,000 as house building grant and two bundles of corrugated sheet.
40 held in Satkhira drive
Satkhira: Police in an overnight drive arrested 40 people including a Jamaat activist from eight upazilas of the district, reports UNB.
Sub-inspector Kumkum of the Special Branch of Satkhira police, said police conducted a drive in different areas of eight upazilas in the district from Sunday night to yesterday morning and arrested them.
Among the arrestees, 13 people were from Sadar upazila, seven from Koloroa, two from Tala, five from Kaliganj, five from Shymnagar, 3 from Ashashuni, 3 from Debhat and two from Patkelghata. The arrestees are accused in several cases including those for sabotages, added the SI.
3 held with 155-kg ganja
RANGPUR: Three drug traffickers were arrested red-handed with 155-kg ganja from village Ram Prasad under Fulabri upazila in Kurigram district yesterday, police said, reports BSS.
On a tip off, a special police squad from Fulbari Thana led by its Sub-inspector (SI) Masud Alam conducted a sudden raid at the house of Rezaul Karim, 30, in the village this morning. Police seized 155-kg ganja and arrested Rezaul Karim, 30, and his cohorts Ranbeer Chandra, 32, of nearby village Kurusha-Ferusha and Mukul Mian, 35, of village Sonaigazi in the same upazila during the raid from the spot.
