Mustafa Jabbar has been elected as the president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) for 2016-2019 tenure, a press statement said yesterday.
Besides, Russell T Ahmed was elected as senior vice-president while M Rashidul Hasan and Farhana A Rahman as vice-presidents, the statement added.
The election of the trade body of country's IT sector was held on June 25, but office bearer election was held to distribute the responsibilities among the elected members yesterday.
Other elected Executive Council members include Uttam Kumar Paul, Mostafizur Rahman Sohel, Syed Almas Kabir, Sonia Bashir Kabir and Riyad S A Husain have been given the charge as directors.
Mustafa Jabbar said, "We had declared in our election manifesto that we will work for the country, domestic Software and the ITES sector and our top priority will be to realize that vision."
"We will work towards freeing the sector from dominance of foreign companies and will move forward with this target," he added.
The current Executive Council will soon handover the responsibilities to the newly elected ones.
