JU passes Tk 193cr budget
SAVAR: The Jahangirnagar University Senate passed a Tk 193.52 crore budget for the fiscal 2016-17 in the annual senate session at the JU Senate Bhaban on the campus on Saturday.
Treasurer Prof Abul Khayer presented the budget at the 35th annual senate meeting with Vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam was in the chair.
This year, budget has been increased in some 17 sectors. Prof Abul Khayer also presented a Tk 154.39 crore revised budget for the fiscal 2015-16.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide Tk 180.02 crore for the next year's budget and Tk 13.5 crore will come from JU’s own sources. The budget will likely have a deficit of Tk 14.8 crore, the treasurer told the senate.
Speaking at the senate meeting, VC Prof Farzana Islam highlighted the development of several sides of the university and the global success of university students and teachers.
The election for the register graduate post will be held on April, 2017, JU VC added. Around 90 senators were present at the programme.
Seminar on higher edn opportunities in USA
The Career and Placement Centre (CPC) of North South University (NSU) hosted a seminar named ‘Higher Education Opportunities in USA’ in association with Education USA, the American Centre on Sunday on NSU premises, says a press release.
Mushfiq Hassan, outreach coordinator of Education USA, The American Centre, was the key-note speaker.
The purpose of this seminar was to inform students about the available opportunities for higher education in USA universities in terms of application technique, admission criteria’s, visa relevant aspects and many other prospects.
This seminar has given answers to several questions of students through the question answer session after the presentation on the topic.
Faisal Wali, director, CPC, Shahnaz Islam, Senior Job Counselor, CPC, NSU, and the graduating students of different schools of NSU attended the seminar.
Eastern University gets new chairman
Md Azizul Islam has been elected the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Eastern University (EU) for 2016-17 at the 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of EU Foundation that was held recently, says a press release.
Md Azizul Islam is a founding member of the EU Foundation and cairman of Alif Group. The meeting was chaired by Abul Khair Chowdhury, the outgoing cairman.
Mohammad Enayet Ullah, Liaquat Hossain Moghul and Alhaj Sk Saydur Rahman were elected as the vice-chairmen and Md Ali Azzam was elected as the treasurer. All members of the Board congratulated the new chairman and others on taking over the charge.
Among others, VC, Pro VC, Treasurer, Registrar was present at the meeting.
