14  of a fraud gang arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested 14 members of a fraud gang, who used to take money from people in the name of recruitment in jobs, from different areas of the city on Sunday.
Sources of Rab-4 said the gang members used to take money from people by giving fake circulars in newspapers. They arrested them from different areas of the capital.
The details about the arrest will be revealed at a press briefing later.

Factory sealed off; owner held
A sanitary napkin factory was sealed off on charge of its unauthorised production and its owner was arrested and also fined Taka one lakh in the Rajshahi city on Sunday.
On a tip-off, a team of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a sudden raid at BSCIC estate and found Metro Healthcare Company manufacturing sanitary napkin without any government approval.
The team arrested its proprietor Shamsul Alam and also fined him Taka one lakh. Finally, the team sealed off the factory until further order. During another raid, the team also found Tripty Bakery producing, possessing and selling food items in unhygienic and substandard manner. It was fined Taka 30,000. Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Director of DNCRP, said the drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will continue.

Student killed in road accident
A minor schoolgirl was killed in a road accident at Tazhat point near Mahiganj area on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway in the city on Sunday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Pakhi Begum, 12, daughter of Mozammel Hossain of Mahiganj area in the city.
Pakhi was a student of class four at Mahiganj Government Primary School in the city.
The accident occurred when a loaded truck hit Pakhi there while she was returning home on foot from a nearby coaching centre this afternoon. She was killed on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana ABM Zahidul Islam said the body has been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for postmortem. A case was filed with Rangpur Kotwali Thana in this regard.

Two arrested with firearm
Chittagong Metropolitan Police in a drive arrested two youths with a country-made light gun (LG) from Moijjartek area under Karnaphuli Thana on Sunday night.
The arrested were identified as Jiku, 22, and Azam, 30, both hailing from Dohazari village under Chandanaish Upazila of the district. Police also detained a private car which was carrying them. Based on secrete information, a team of Karnaphuli Thana police stopped the car and arrested them with LG, said Rafiqul Islam, Officer- in- Charge (OC) of Karnaphuli police station. A case was filed in this connection, he added.
