Tk 801cr budget proposed

RANGPUR: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu yesterday proposed Taka 801.24 crore surplus annual development budget for the next 2016-2017 fiscal, reports BSS.
The city mayor, also a valiant freedom fighter, announced the budget in an open ceremony at city corporation conference room with over Taka 2.46 crore as surplus without increasing existing taxation rates and expanding taxation areas.
The proposed budget for the next fiscal year is higher by over Taka 156.19 crore than that of the annual development budget of Taka 645.05 crore for the current 2015-2016 fiscal.
The city councilors, chief Executive officer of RpCC Ruhul Amin Khan, its executive engineer Azam Ali, Secretary Fazlul Kabir, officials and employees, civil society members, professionals and elites were present.

Before announcing the proposed budget, the city mayor narrated massive infrastructural and other development works already done in the city since assuming responsibility at his office on February 19 in 2013 as the first elected mayor.
Speaking on the occasion and answering various questions asked by the journalists, the mayor said the prevailing tax rates will remain unchanged in the proposed budget for the next fiscal.
The proposed budget includes income of over Taka 46.08 crore from revenue earnings and Taka 754.60 crore as development assistance from the government, different donor agencies and foreign- assisted projects.
The sector-wise break up of the Taka 754.60 crore development assistance includes government allocations of Taka 35 crore, Taka 290 crore under Development Project Proposals, Taka 60 crore under the MGSP-II, Taka 150 crore as JICA assistance, Taka 7.50 crore under UPPR project, Taka 10 crore under Solar Light Project, Taka 120 crore from revenue capital, Taka 50 lakh under a2i project, Taka 29 crore under climate change projects, Taka 160 crore under various donor agencies and foreign-assisted projects and Taka 60 lakh from bank interests.
Under the proposed budget, over Taka 2.46 crore will remain as surplus after meeting all costs of over Taka 798.77 crore for infrastructural development and other works to be conducted during the next fiscal.
Of them, the costs of over Taka 44.77 crore will be met from the revenue earnings and Taka 754 crore from various development assistances.
In the proposed budget, special emphasis has been put on health, water supply, drainage and sewerage systems, primary health care, supply of medicines, sanitation, tree plantation, climate change adaptation and various other sectors.
The proposed budget also includes allocations for education, garbage management, forestation, alleviation of urban poverty, development activities in the extended areas of 18 new wards and development of the extremely poor and slum dwellers in the city.
