17 king cobras seized

The anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion yesterday seized seventeen king cobras and arrested an alleged gang member of the international smuggling ring from capital’s outskirt Keraniganj area 

Talking to The Independent, RAB-2 commander Lt Col SM Masud Rana said getting secret information, a team of RAB led by deputy director Major Nasir Uddin Ahmed raided at Ghatarchar Lake City in Keraniganj around 3pm.
After searching the area, the RAB personnel seized seventeen king cobras from the plastic baskets and arrested Babul Mia, hailing from Kishoreganj district.
During the primary interrogation, he said that he collects king cobras from his associates across the country and later he collects poisons from the snakes.
There are huge demands in home and abroad of king cobra’s skin and poison, said RAB-2 commander.
Later executive magistrate Anisur Rahman Khan sentenced Babul to one year jail and fined him Tk 50,000.
