Police detained three persons and seized 120 gold bars, weighing around 14kg, from the city’s Rubi Gate area under Bayazid police station yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Zahir, 32, Zakir Uddin Munna, 28 and driver Mohammad Faruk, 30.

(North) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said acting on a tip-off, a team of Bayazid police intercepted a Dhaka-bound private
car while it was passing through Rubi Gate area of
the city around 11am and took the passengers of the car to the police station, the official said.
Later, according to their confession, police recovered the gold bars from the oil tanker of the car.
He said more people may be involved in gold smuggling and police are trying to trace out the alleged smugglers, Paritosh added.
The market value of the seized gold bars is estimated to be around Tk 5 crore, the police official said.
