Man hacked dead over land in Madaripur
Madaripur: A man was hacked to death by his rival over a land-related dispute at Paschim Rastri village of Sadar upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Saddam Bepari, son of Dalim Bepari, a resident of the village.
Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said there had been a longstanding dispute over the ownership of a piece of land between Saddam and another person of the village. There was also an arbitration meeting at the village over the issue at night.
Later locals spotted his body at the village at night and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. He might have been killed over the land-related matter, added the OC.
Missing man found dead

Police recovered the body of a man from a sugarcane field at Molakoa village in Kaliganj yesterday morning, four days after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Khokan Das, 27, driver of easy bike and an inhabitant of Barabhatpara village of the upazila.
Sub-inspector Imran Alam of Kaliganj police said Khokan Das went missing since Wednesday afternoon when he left the house with his human hauler.
Sudev Das, a neighbor of Khokan identified the body. The mouth of Kohkan was tied, he said. Police suspected that Khokan might have been killed by criminals.
A case was filed with Kaliganj police station in this connection. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, police said.
Youth’s body recovered
in Natore
Natore: Police recovered the body of a young man from Nasira Beel area in Lalpur upazila on Sunday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Jewel, a three-wheeler driver and a resident of Mirganj area in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi district. Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Abdul Hye Talukder said Jewel had gone to Ishwardi along with his friend Masud on Saturday afternoon and did not return since.
Locals noticed his body lying in the area in the morning and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue. Police also arrested Masud.
Yaba seized in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 members stationed at Faridpur seized yaba tablets on Saturday night from Laksmipur area of this town along with the peddler, reports BSS.
According to Rab sources, a group of the elite force led by Company Commander Major Abdullah Al Hassan, acting on a tip off, raided a grocery shop near the slaughter house of the town in Laksmipur area. The force searched the shop and found out 515 pieces of Yaba tablets from the possession of the shops’ owner Akash Sheikh, 21.
After interrogation Akash informed RAB that along with running the grocery he used to sell yaba as it is a profitable business.
After interrogation RAB handed him over to Kotwali police for necessary legal proceedings.
Four grenades, 117 bullets recovered in Munshiganj
Munshiganj: Four hand grenades and 117 rounds of bullet, presumably dating back to the country’s Liberation War, were recovered during soil digging work by labourers in Keutchura area of Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
Mohammad Shamsuzzaman Babu, additional superintendent of police, Munshiganj, said construction workers spotted the grenades and bullets while they were digging soil for constructing a mosque in Keutchura in the afternoon.
On information, police recovered the grenades and bullets.
The grenades and bullets might have been kept during the war in 1971, added the ASP.
One held with drug in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a drug peddler from Dalbari village in Dewanganj upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon, reports BSS.
The arrestee was identified as Sona Ban, 35, wife of Tota Miah of the village.
RAB sources said acting on a tip off, a team of the elite force led by Company Commander,
Hayatul Islam Khan, raided the area and arrested Sona Ban with 65 bottles of phensedyl. A case was registered with Dewanganj police station.
