BSS

Lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches yesterday hailed the proposed budget for fiscal year 2016-17 terming it as a pro-people budget, which would be able to further advance the desired development of country, reports BSS. Taking part in the general discussion on the new national fiscal plan, they said this budget is progressive and development-oriented and Bangladesh has, in the meantime, received global appreciation for emerging as a stronger economy under the visionary leadership of Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina.
The MPs further said that the desired development of the cou  ntry is possible through implementing the budget and transforming Bangladesh into a middle-income nation in line with the Vision 2021.
On June 2, Finance Minister AMA Muhith rolled out a Taka 340,605 crore national budget for 2016-2017 fiscal, setting the GDP growth target at 7.2 percent and delineating a set of programmes to transform the country into a role model of modern and welfare state by 2041.
Taking part in the discussion, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan hailed the budget terming it welfare oriented what the people expected from the experienced and smart Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
He referred to the uncompromising leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in guiding the country and said, “Whatever Bangladesh achieved after independence; it was done by Awami League.”
Giving a salient feature of the incumbent government’s development, Khan said the country’s economy is emerging upward at present. With a view to boosting the country’s economy, he said the World Bank is giving $ 36 crore for dredging 65 rivers aimed at ensuring navigation of 900 kilometre river route.
He said the Payra Sea Port would come into operation by 2023, while partial activities of the port would begin in this year.
The minister bitterly criticized the role of BNP-Jamaat and hoped that BNP would ultimately refrain from unleashing terror in the name of hartal and blockade as the people rejected such programme against an elected and democratic government.
He was very critical about the role of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda and her ally Jamaat-e-Islami for begging help of their foreign masters to put the government into trouble.
“Khaleda Zia is the “Ghosheti Begum” in this current era. She is the leader of all killers including Shafiul Alam Pradhan, who led the mission of seven murders in Dhaka University,” Shajahan Khan said.
Shajahan Khan said Bangladesh has achieved development in various sectors due to the pragmatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who earlier implemented six budgets consecutively in a successful manner.
In the discussion, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said that Begum Khaleda Zia is the undeclared Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islam, who tried at least 19 times to kill the successful Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with her son IT expert Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
“Police also unearthed vital documents from journalist Shahfiq Rehman’s house, which proved that BNP planned to kill Joy,” he said, adding that Ziaur Rahman rehabilitated the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in different diplomatic missions and changed the county’s constitution with an ulterior motive.
The minister said those who joined the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kenrda, cultural programmes organized for the independence, independence songs, cooperated Freedom Fighters (FFs), dishonoured women and others worked in favour of the Liberation War, are all FFs.
He demanded of the Finance Minister for announcing religious festival and special allowances for the FFs and said, “the way FF’s heroic activities are published in the textbooks, the inhuman activities of the war criminals should be there in books to help the learners know about these worst human beings.”
“Jamaat-e-Islam has no right to do politics in Bangladesh as they acted against Liberation War. Jamaat must be banned in this parliament,” he said.
Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmood said the government has done tremendous development works across the country under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said if all concerned put in their best efforts from their respective positions, it would not be tough to implement the planned development programmes and the new budget.
“The government has undertaken a coordinated plan to ensure proper water management in the country aimed at suitable use of water in different sectors,” Anisul Islam Mahmood said.
State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed said legend of the history Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earned fame by herself and also held it by her own capacity to be an example of rare personality in Bangladesh and also in the region.
