HP squad to bear fruit for nat’l team: Minhaz

Sports Reporter

Newly appointed chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu described the High Performance (HP) programme as the best opportunity for the current players. He stated that they have formed the contingent with the promising players to reap the benefit in future.
“We didn’t get the practice facilities and other opportunities in past what the current players are witnessing and getting. Even, the fringe players are now enjoying these facilities to develop their individual performance,” said Minhazul Abedin Nannu.
“Actually we have formed the HP unit keeping the future in mind. If we could keep its continuation of the High Performance squad, we will get a feedback,” Nannu told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“The honour the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gave us we will try to restore it. We will think ourselves successful if we could produce at least three players for the national team from the squad,” he added.
The chief selector said that the more the involvement of the players will be raised the more the competition amongst the players will be increased.
“There will have so many players in the HP and national squad. Now we will get to see the involvement of the fifty best possible players in unison. It is a good sign. Players will always be alert to improve their individual performance so that they could make the cut in the HP unit as well as the national team,” he said.
Citing the names of the Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Minhazul Abedin said that they do not keep them in the HP squad as they will get chance in the provisionary squad of the national team.
“We will soon declare the 30-man preliminary squad of the Bangladesh team for the next home series against England. And so, we didn’t keep them in the HP,” the former skipper said.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 24-member High Performance (HP) Squad for 2016-17 with the best performing players of the domestic tournament alongside the players of the U-19 World Cup on Saturday. The training camp of the HP will start on July 17 before the national team’s practice camp.
The board meanwhile appointed Simon Helmut as the head coach and Corey Bocking as the trainer for the HP squad.
