Bangladesh 2nd in gender parity in education in South Asia

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said Bangladesh has secured second position among the South Asian countries in the rankings of gender parity in the education sector, reports BSS. Bangladesh ranks is at 2nd position in gender parity in primary and secondary level of education in the South Asian countries, which is a rare example for other developing countries, he said. He said this while presiding over Regional Ministerial Caucus-2 meeting of the 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (19CCEM) at Nassau, the capital of Bahamas, said a press release. The government is introducing multimedia classrooms, free education up to class six, providing free books, awarding scholarships among the students especially female students to encourage them for education, he added. The main goal of the 19CCEM is to determine information based policy, strategy and planning by the Commonwealth countries compatible with new innovations and implications for their development. Nahid left Dhaka on June 21 to attend the five day conference from June 22 to 26. The theme of the conference is Quality Education for Equitable Development, Performance, Paths and Productivity.
