2 lakh yaba tablets seized
Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized two lakh pieces of yaba tablets from a house in Gohira area of Anwara upazila in Chittagong early Sunday.
The force sources said on secret information, a team of coast guard, led by Lieutenant Dixson Chowdhury, conducted a raid on a house in the area around 3am. They recovered two lakh pieces of yaba contained in two shopping bags lying in an abandoned condition.

Shoe factory catches fire
A fire broke out at a footwear factory at Joydebpur in Gazipur city early Sunday.
Hasibur Rahman, officer of Joydebpur Fire Service Station, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at ‘Satota Shoe Factory’ in Mariali area around 12:15am and soon engulfed the entire building. On information, three firefighting units rushed in and doused the blaze after one and a half hours of frantic efforts. The extent of losses caused by the fire would be around Tk10 lakh, the officer added.

Three punished for scalping train tickets
A mobile court in the capital yesterday sentenced two men to seven days’ jail and fined another Tk5,000 for selling train tickets on the black market at Kamalapur railway station.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested Rana Miah, 20, Afzal Hossain alias Sentu, 38, and Mohammad Sohel, 29 from the station from 8am to 8.30am while they were found scalping train tickets. Later they were produced before a mobile court, led by executive magistrate Firoj Ahmed, which awarded Rana and Afzal seven days’ jail and fined Sohel Tk5,000, said ASP Aminul Islam, company commander of Rab-3.

Three fined for staying at railway platforms
A mobile court of Chittagong District Administration (CDA) on Saturday fined three persons for staying at the platforms of Chittagong railway station without train tickets.
CDA executive magistrate Abdullah Al Monsur conducted the drive at Chittagong railway station and fined them. They were fined as per Railway (Amendment) Act 1975, the executive magistrate said adding that such drives would continue in order to check black marketing of railway tickets ahead of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

Sweetmeat shop fined TK8 lakh
A mobile court in the city on Saturday fined a sweetmeat shop named ‘Flavor Food and Beverage’ Tk8 lakh for producing food items in unhygienic environment and using date expiry chemicals with foods. The mobile court was led by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters magistrate Sarwar Alam. “For producing food items in unhygienic environment and using date expiry chemical with foods we have fined the shop Tk8 lakh,” said Sarwar Alam, the magistrate.
