Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will arrange a 10-day special steamer services from Dhaka- Barisal route on June 30 on occasion of Eid Ul Fitr festival with five vessels.
The Eid special service of BIWTC vessels with regular services will continue till July 10, said Syed Abul Kalam Azad, assistant general manager ( commercial/ passenger) BIWTC Barisal.
BIWTC sources said five BIWTC vessels, including four paddle wheel steamers PS Mahsud, PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Turn, and three screw wheel motor vessels MV Bangali, have been placed to carry passengers to their respective destinations connecting Chandpur, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Hularhut of Pirojpur and Morelganj of Bagerhaat districts under this special schedule, he added.
Barisal and Narayanganj BIWTC stations has been ready to provide special tug boats and piloting services and be prepared to face any emergency calls, BIWTC official told.
On the other hand ,the 10-day Eid special triple-deck private launch services on Barisal-Dhaka -Barisal route will be started from June 29 night on Dhaka will be continued on July 11.
On the other hand, BIWTA source said during Eid special service a total 23 vessels will be scheduled on Dhaka-Barisal river route . Highest rush of passengers expected on July 3 and 4 from Dhaka and 9 to 10 from Barisal.
Md. Mustafizur Rahman, deputy director (river safety and traffic management)) BIWTA Barisal office, said port authority completed safe berthing facilities at the port.
