Govt to appoint psychologists in educational instts

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said that the government thinking to appoint psychologists in the educational institutions to provide counseling to the boys and girls during their adolescent period.
He also urged the teachers and guardians to look after the children in building up their physical and mental development along with their education.
The government is giving importance on co-curriculum activities including sports and cultural activities in the educational institutions throughout the year for physical and mental soundness to remove the monotony in education, he said.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the Generation Breakthrough Project for creating awareness on the health among the adolescents at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in the capital.
Under the project, headmasters of 300 institutions from Dhaka Mahanagar, Barisal Mahanagar, Patuakhali and Barguna districts and superintendents of 50 Madrasas attended the inaugural workshop.
Education secretary Md Sohrab Hossain, directorate general of secondary and higher secondary education (DSHE) Prof Fahima Khatun, the Netherlands Charge-de-Affairs to Bangladesh Martine Van Hoogstraten, UNFPA representative Argentina Matavel Piccin and project director Dr Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, spoke on the occasion. We would provide training to a teacher of each school regarding the adolescent counseling till we get necessary number of professional psychologists, education minister said.
