DU passes Tk 664 crore budget
The Dhaka University senate on Thursday passed a Taka 664.11 crore budget for the fiscal 2016-17 in the annual senate session at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.
In special invitation, former treasurer of the university Prof M Kamal Uddin placed the budget with Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair. The treasurer's post is remaining vacant as the tenure of Prof Kamal Uddin has expired in early June.
Prof Kamal also presented a Taka 555.11 crore revised budget for the fiscal 2015-16.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide Taka 608.41 crore for the next year's budget and Taka 41 crore will come from DU's own sources. The budget will likely have a deficit of Taka 14.70 crore, the treasurer told the senate.
In his address, Vice-chancellor and also DU Senate Chairman Professor Arefin Siddique underscored the need for receiving long-term plan in the field of education and said steps should be taken on the basis of consensus from all concerned considering the ideological and practical aspects of education.
"Giving priority to the necessities of this decade, we should take initiatives to formulate education plan and to implement it," he said.
The vice-chancellor urged all to contribute to their best towards making the university as one of the world's foremost seats of learning.

Senate session of NU held in Gazipur
The 18th senate session of  National University was held at senate hall of it’s Gazipur campus on Saturday morning.  The annual budget and the report   was placed in this senate session chaired by Vice-chancellor professor Dr Harun Or Rashid. Parliament members,  Chairmen of  different  Boards of Education, Divisional Commissioner, several university professors and other persons concerned  with education were present in the session. Revenue and development budget at tk 538.72 crore  was approved in the session.
Pro-Vice-chancellor Professor Aslam Bhuiyan , Treasurer Professor Noman-ur-Rashid also spoke in the programme.  Attorney General   Mahbub-e- Alam, former vice-chancellor of Jahangirngar  University Professor  Sharif Enamul Kabir, cultural personality Ramendu Mazumder and  officials  of the university were present in the senate session.
