34 hurt in road accident
At least 34 persons were injured in a road accident in Custom Bridge area of Bandar thana in Chittagong city on Friday morning.
Among the injured persons 25 were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and the rest were admitted to different private clinics, said Abdul Hamid, Nayak of CMCH police outpost. The conditions of two unidentified bus passengers are stated to be critical, hospital source said.
Police said the accident occurred when a Chittagong Export Processing Zone bound staff bus of Hongkong Denim Mill Limited knocked a rider and a microbus in Custom Bridge area of Bandar thana at 8 am on Friday.
Locals and police rescued the injured persons and sent them to the different hospitals.
Police with the help of locals rescued the vehicles but its drivers and helpers escaped after the accident.

Food producing factories fined
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a series of anti-adulteration drive in Chittagong on Friday fined four food producing factories TK 26 lakh for producing foods in unhygienic environment mixing with harmful chemical.
Executive magistrate of RAB Mohammad Sarwar Alam along with the officials of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 conducted a drive at the factory of Bonoful and Company at Pachuria area under Patiya thana and fined a Banoful Company TK 15 lakh for producing foods and Biscuits using harmful Ammonia.
  Earlier, the same mobile court conducted a drive at the factory of Hossain Foods and Company Limited at Charchaktai area and fined the industries TK eight lakh for producing and selling adulterated foods.

Mills, shops gutted
A rice mill, one spice grinding mill, two bedding stores and a mango wholesale shop were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Halim Market under Chakravarty area of Gazipur city on Thursday.
Mohammad Abdul Hamid , senior fire service station officer of Savar, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit and engulfed the mills and shops within short time.
    Being informed, 3 fire service units from Savar doused the fire after a frantic effort of more than one hour with the help of locals, fire service sources said.

Worker electrocuted
A construction worker died from electrocution in Taopatti area under Dakkhin Keraniganj thana early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Billal, 20, son of Kashem, a resident of Imambari Nayem Colony of Dakkhin Keraniganj. Zinnat Ansari, officer-in-charge of Dakkhin Keraniganj Model Police Station, said Billal was electrocuted as a rod fell down on an electric wire while he was working in an under-construction building in the area around 2am and died on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body. A case was filed in this connection.
