Road transport and bridge minister Obaidul Quader has said that a task force will monitor vehicular movement in the capital so that no traffic congestion is created at the entry points of Dhaka city during Eid-ul-Fitr.
He was speaking at a high-level meeting on transportation at the BIAM auditorium yesterday (Tuesday).
Vigilance teams will work at city’s bus stations, including Saidabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli, to reduce the sufferings of home-goers and prevent charging of exorbitant bus fares ahead of Eid.
Human-haulers and unfit vehicles, trucks or covered vans will not be allowed to ply on the highways for three days prior to and after the Eid day, except those carrying perishable commodities, readymade garments and medicine.
CNG stations will remain open for 24 hours from July 10 to 19 to ensure smooth fuel supply to passenger-carrying vehicles.
“Adequate cranes and wreckers will be deployed in accident-prone zones of highways to ensure free movement of vehicles if any accident takes place,” said the minister.
Shipping minister Shajahan Khan, railway minister Mazibul Hoque, state minister for home Assaduzzaman Khan, state minister for local government and rural development Moshiur Rahman Ranga, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Haque, mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) AJM Nasir Uddin and senior officers of law-enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
