A probe committee was formed to investigate into the Uttara Alauddin Market fire accident to submit report within seven working days.
Fire Service and Civil Defense Director General Brig Gen Ali Ahmmed Khan confirmed it.
The probe committee, consisting expert members from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), have already started work. The experts from BUET and RAJUK will mainly find whether there was a fault in building construction or design, he added.
And we are investigating the actual reason behind the fire, he added. Besides, another victim, who received burn injuries in the fire, died early yesterday, raising the death toll to six.
The deceased was identified as Engineer Mahmudul Hasan, 36, who succumbed to his injuries around 4am at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
He was deputy general manager of Tropical Homes Limited, a real estate company.
Mahmudul received 80per cent burn injuries in the incident, said DMCH Burn Unit Resident Surgeon Partha Shankar Pal. He, along with his two young children, was admitted to DMCH, among others.
Shankar Pal earlier told that the condition of the children, Maisha Akhter, 11, and Muntakin, eight months, and their father, Mahmudul Hassan, 40, were critical.
Mahmudul was attending an Iftar at his office in the building’s basement with his children. An elevator fall and the subsequent fire at 17-storied high rise Tropical Alauddin Shopping Complex had killed at least six persons and left 50 others injured.
