Women cricketers to get coach soon

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its women’s wing chairman Abdul Awal Chowdhury Bhulu said that they will soon be appointed a national coach for the women’s team with both local and foreign candidates in line to get the job.
Headcoach Janak Chandika Gamage left Dhaka for Colombo on May, just two months before the conclusion of the tenure while BCB showed their reluctance to extend the contract with him despite being extended men’s team coaching stuffs.
Since then, the post remains vacant. And so, Bangladesh are searching for a new head coach in place of Janak Gamage.
It is learnt that the board proposed to some locals to be the coach of the National women’s team but some of them did not show their interest to the proposal and some are yet to tell anything in response to the overture. In that aspect, it is surfaced out that this time a local may take the charge of the eves’ side.
In this regard, Bhulu did not rule out the possibility of a local coach taking over and said that they are talking with potential candidates through their CEO.
“Before the next home and away tours, we want to appoint the new head coach of the women’s team. We have started communicating through our CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Shujan. You will soon get to know the name of the new head coach,” said Abdul Awal Chowdhury.
“Actually we are trying to appoint a local coach for the women’s team. Along with this, we are trying to rope in a quality foreign coach for the team. But if we go for a foreign coach in that case, we will give top priority to Asian countries so that language barrier cannot be greater,” Bhulu told The Independent.
After the long Eid vacation, Bangladesh will kickstart their preparation under a training camp which is scheduled to take place either Chittagong or Cox’s Bazar. Before getting the head coach, assistant coach Ashiqur Rahman Majumdar will supervise the preliminary eves’ squad during the preparation camp.
Bangladesh National Women’s Team will tour Ireland in September, where they will play three one day internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty internationals (T20Is). Apart from that, the Tigress will host Ireland for the same number of matches in November.
