Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its media committee chairman Jalal Younus said that they will start working with the reported bowlers of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after the Eid vacation following the fixation of the procedures of the bowling review committee.
“We have a meeting on Tuesday to decide the committee’s modus operandi. At least 13 to 14 bowlers have been reported during this Dhaka Premier League. We will start working with them after Eid,” said Jalal Younus, who led the four-member Bowling Review Committee, yesterday.
The regular process will be started with the assessment. For it, we will call them at the net to assess their bowling actions. Omar Khaled Rumi was a former spinner and Dipu Roy Chowdhury and Golam Faruk Suru are former pace bowlers who will work according to their areas,” Younus told media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
“If we find deviation in their bowling through the naked eye and cameras, we will have to rectify them. Afterwards, if we see the correction is consistent, they can play in next year’s league. If they are reported again, they will be banned for a year,” he added.
The Bowling Review Committee chairman said that they will work at every domestic competition that will be started with the forthcoming edition of the National Cricket League (NCL) with the help of camera.
“We will work with bowlers in the NCL, BCL, BPL, the Dhaka Premier League, Dhaka First Division and Second Division and age-group,” former fast bowler said.
“From next season, we will have four cameras in majority of first-class matches. We want to identify bowlers with suspected action through technology and not just the naked eye,” he added.
Admitting their inexperience at reviewing of bowling action through technology, BCB director said that they have plans to bring expertise from outside on a short-term basis to help us.
“We are not experienced at reviewing a bowling action so we will bring an outside expert. We will need a dedicated space because this process also requires technological assistance. We have a long gap now and we are now well equipped to tackle this issue,” he said, adding “We are also hoping to bring experts from Cardiff on a temporary basis.”
In response to a query, Jalal Younus said that they have another planning to build a mini-lab with minimum cost.
“Building a lab within ICC’s protocol is going to be very expensive. We want to start with minimum costs. We have written to the ICC for technical assistance,” he told.
About Taskin and Arafat Sunny, BCB media committee chairman said that they will send them for test after being fully confirmed about their bowling improvement.
“Arafat Sunny and Taskin Ahmed are not within our jurisdiction. The national team’s management is working with them. Their rehab is ongoing. Their videos from the Dhaka Premier League will be assessed soon and if it is satisfactory and we are fully confirmed, they will go for a second bowling action test and it will be before the next international assignment,” Younus opined.
