Aleem Belal converted a late goal, as Usha Krira Chakra escaped with one point in a vital match in the Green Delta Premier Division Hockey League after a 1-1 draw with Abahani Limited yesterday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
In an eventful match, Abahani Limited took the lead early in the 14th minute and after a hard fought Usha managed to make it one all through Aleem Belal.
After the draw, Usha remained on the top of the points table with 38 from 14 matches closely followed by Mariner Youngs, who are on the second position with 37 points and from as many matches Abahani earned 32 points and eliminated from the title race.
However, in the 70 minutes match, which took two hours 10 minutes to finish, the league leaders had to pay for some missing opportunities, failing to take the early lead on fifth and 10 minutes.
Actually, it has become habits of the hockey players to make chaos in almost every match. Some times it was also very odd looking when some of the players also did not hesitate to go for assaulting the umpires.
Though the match of two powerhouses was started with huge aspect of an entertaining encounter with Usha initiated the attacks and Abahani also came to respond strongly but in an unsporting manner.
Players began the turmoil with protesting against the decisions from umpires very often as it took two hours 10 minutes to finish the match of 70 minutes game. Usha had to take lead in the fifth minute when from the first attack of the match they forced Abahani for a penalty corner but the PC specialist Aleem Belal could not cash in.
After five minutes, Usha again went closer to score but this time Hassan Jubaer Niloy failed to push the ball into the net from a handshake distance on10th minute.
Abahani, after getting rid of the initial assaults made a strong response with taking lead on 14th minute when Rumman Sarker scored an excellent goal. The forward made a long run to overcome his markers before entering into the circle and finish with a reverse hit (1-0).
After taking the lead Abahani got back their rhythm and controlled the match at will. The Sky-Blues could also take clear margin lead but Tanjil looked shaky after failing to score from a Rummon Sarker cross when he left fully free to the post on 25th minute.
Trailing by a solitary goal Usha were struggling to make comeback and came very closer for a couple of times but it was hard to believe when Niloy and Krishna Kumar just failed to contact the ball being just less than a yards closer to the post on 32nd and 33rd minute respectively.
Then the match likely headed to Abahani’s favour and Usha going to suffer the first defeat, but Belal, one of the Pakistani recruits salvaged the table toppers when he converted a penalty corner on 65th minute (1-1) to escape with one points.
