Nepal appreciates prompt response to quake victims

Ex-Nepalese foreign minister meets PM
UNB

Former Nepalese deputy prime minister and foreign minister Sujata Koirala yesterday expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for Bangladesh’s quick response and support to Nepal’s earthquake victims, reports UNB. She expressed this gratitude on behalf of her country when she paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad office. PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting about the outcome of the meeting.
Over 8,000 people were killed and thousands of houses and other establishments were destroyed when a powerful earthquake hit Nepal on April 25 last.
Immediately after the disaster, Bangladesh sent relief materials, including 10,000 metric tonnes of rice, medicines, drinking water and tents to neighbouring Nepal. Bangladesh also sent medical teams there.
In response to Sujat’s appreciation,
Sheikh Hasina said as a neighbour it was Bangladesh’s responsibility to stand beside the victims of Nepal and her government exactly did that. Sujata, head of the International Relations Department & Central Member of Nepali Congress, also appreciated Bangladesh’s  disaster management
expertise and shared her experience with Hasina about the  situation during and after the earthquake in Nepal.
She also informed Hasina about a memorandum of understanding signed among the Nepalese government, Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and an NGO for rebuilding the villages that were damaged in the earthquake. Expressing deep respect for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sujata said the people of her country greatly values Bangladesh-Nepal ties and have a great respect for Bangabandhu.
