The Army has reiterated that like the people of the country, it was determined to see the killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, the Comilla student, brought to justice after they are arrested and identified. It added that it was extending all-out cooperation to the ongoing investigation in this respect.
In a statement through the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) yesterday, the Army said it has noted some “baseless and irrelevant statements” made from time to time by Tonu’s family that has left the scope of undermining the Army’s image.
“Like all families living inside the Cantonment, Tonu’s family has been provided all facilities. Their free movement had never been curtailed. After her murder, guards were initially detailed in the interests of security at their place of residence. They were later withdrawn after improvement in security,” the statement said.
“Yar Hossain, the father of Tonu, is a serving member of the Comilla Cantonment Board, who is getting security inside the Cantonment like everyone else. Attempts to kill him by running him over under a bus or a motorcycle are something imaginary, of which Tonu’s family have not yet informed anyone. When he was asked in this regard by his superior officer, he failed to provide any reliable information. The family of Tonu, like other Army families, are living inside the Cantonment. The Army authorities are determined to extend all cooperation to the aggrieved family of Tonu and the proper probe into her murder,” the statement said.
