A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned the hearing of Zia Charitable Trust graft case till August 11, deferring the date for placing BNP Chariperson Khaleda Zia’s self-defence statement for seventh time, reports BSS.
Yesterday was fixed for submitting self-defence statement by the BNP chief. But Khaleda refrained from appearing before the court on health ground.
Accepting a time plea submitted for the BNP leader, Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Special Judges Court-3 reset the date of hearing.
The defence, however, cross-examined four prosecution witnesses in the trial.
On August 8, 2011, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Harunur Rashid lodged the Zia Charitable Trust graft case against Khaleda and three others with Tejgaon Police Station on charges of embezzling Taka 31.5 million of the Zia Charitable Trust.
The ACC submitted charge-sheet in the case on January 16 in 2012.
