RANGPUR: Strengthening activities of Corruption Prevention Committees (CPCs) and Integrity Units could enhance involvement of common people in launching an effective anti-corruption movement for building a corruption-free society, reports BSS. The views were expressed at a workshop on ‘Involvement of Common People in Preventing Corruption’ organised by the Combined District Office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and district CPC at Begum Rokeya auditorium here on Wednesday.
RDRS Bangladesh assisted in arranging the workshop under Justice Reform and Corruption Prevention Project being implemented by Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs with German Development Cooperation funding. Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the workshop as chief guest with President of district CPC Professor Mozammel Haque in the chair. Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, Additional Police Super ABM Zakir Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Priyosindhu Talukder, Deputy Director of Combined District Office of ACC Mozahar Ali Sarder and Head of Programme Coordination of RDRS Bangladesh Manjushree Saha spoke as special guests.
Seventy-eight participants including government officials, Presidents, General Secretaries and Members of the district and upazila level CPCs, district and Education Officers, civil society members and journalists participated in the workshop.
General Secretary of district CPC valiant freedom fighter Akbar Hossain delivered welcome speech narrating importance of involving the common people with corruption prevention activities.
Deputy Director of ACC Mozahar Ali Sarder said the CPCs and Integrity Units could play vital role in creating anti-corruption sentiment among common people as prevention of corruption is not possible only through filing cases and punishing corrupts.
Additional Police Super Zakir Hossain stressed on conducing motivational activities for creating a changed social mindset to ultimately build a completely corruption free society in place of thinking about reducing extent of corruption.
