Four people in a car, including the driver, were killed and two others injured as their vehicle got rammed by a train at Mathurapur rail crossing in Jessore yesterday.
The deceased were identified as driver of the private car Abdul Hakim, 32, of Baisha village in Keshabpur of Jessore, Rezaul Karim Raju, 38 of Chachrail of same upazila, Chayan, 13, son of Nityananda Das of Tirerhat in sadar upazila and his maternal grandmother Jaya Rani, 55. Deepika Rani, 35, mother of Chayan and their relative Bandhan were injured.
Deepika Rani told newsmen that the accident took place at around 10:20am on Thursday as the Dhaka bound 763 up Chitra Express rammed into their private car as the vehicle was crossing the rail tracks. The car was coming from Keshabpur, she added. Railway sources said no gateman was appointed for the rail crossing as it is not an authorized one.
