The players of Victoria Sporting Club approached to the board and lodged their complaint that they did not get their payment even one day after the end of the deadline set by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
All they feared for payment right after the induction of the ‘Players of Choice’ system. The apprehension became true with most of clubs sans Abahani Limited paid the amount what they should clear at certain stages of the league.
As per the rules, clubs should clear its sixty percent payment to players at the initial Super League phase of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). But the bulk of the clubs did not clear it despite being finished the league.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon thereafter issued an ultimate of 72 hours for the clubs on Sunday to pay the arrears of players’ payment. That ultimatum has been ended on Wednesday. But the hapless cricketers of the Victoria sought the assistance of the board to get the payment.
“Only one among us gets 40 percent payment. Someone got 10 percent, someone 20 or 30 per cent of the payment till now. The league has been finished. We all will go home in Eid but can’t go without money,” said Victoria captain Nadif Chowdhury.
“All the boys are disappointed. We all are professional cricketers. It is very unfortunate for us if we have to suffer in this way to get the payment. BCB CEO assured us that the board will see the matter. We are till hopeful of getting the money,” Chowdhury told media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after meeting with CEO.
Players informed that clubs’ officials didn’t respond to the phone calling. Even no one amongst the officials was present in the field on the stroke of the last Super League’s match.
After issuing the ultimatum, BCB president said that the board would clear the payment if the clubs didn’t pay it. In that case, they will take stern action against the clubs.
BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said that they are looking into the matter so that the players could get their due payment before the Eid vacation.
