The High Court yesterday granted bail to BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah in a case filed against him for subversive activities during hartal and blockade programmes enforced by the BNP-led alliance in 2015. The HC bench comprising Justice Shawkat Hossain and Justice KM Kamrul Kader granted the bail following a petition filed by the BNP leader. Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury, counsel for BNP leader, told reporters that a total of 28 cases were filed against his client for allegedly committing subversive activities during hartal and blockade programmes enforced by the BNP-led alliance in 2015. However, the BNP leader has secured bail in all the cases from the higher court in the meantime. Barrister Rafiqul was sent to jail on May 16 in seven violence cases after he surrendered before separate courts. Meanwhile, the same bench granted bail for six months to suspended Gazipur City Corporation mayor and BNP Chairperson advisor MA Mannan in a violence case.
