Leaders of Bangladesh Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) has laid emphasis on joint efforts to boost ties with Myanmar exploring business potential in the resource-blessed Southeast Asian country, reports UNB.
A de6legation of the trade body, led by its President SM Nurul Hoque, had a detailed discussion with Senior Commerce Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun at latter’s office at the secretariat yesterday on how business relations between the two countries can be strengthened.
BMCCI general secretary Saif Ahmed, executive director M Musleh Uz Zaman, director finance Dewan Faruque, additional commerce secretary (FTA) Monoj Kumar Roy, commercial councilor designate for Myanmar Hasan Khaled Foisal and trade consultant for Myanmar ASM Imran were also present.
The BMCCI presented its findings on strategies of bilateral business development means.
The trade body identified some areas like building materials— cement, rod, tin, plastic, glass, pharma products, electric and electronic, ceramic ware, services—advertising, telecom, VAS, ICT from which Bangladesh can benefit by exporting those to Myanmar.
The BMCCI thinks agro-fisheries, wood-made furniture, contract manufacturing and garment are also the potential areas for collaboration.
Since Myanmar draws huge tourists from around the world, Bangladesh can also be benefited by tagging them with an extended tour to Bangladesh with the help of tour operators.
The BMCCI suggested further easing visa process and access to Teknaf and Cox’s Bazar with the up gradation of Cox’s Bazar Airport.
The bilateral trade body also laid emphasis on holding single country exhibition, exchange of tourists, journalists, exchange of visit of business delegates to bring pace in relations on all fronts.
The Commerce Secretary listened to them and encouraged the business leaders to give more efforts in strengthening ties.
He reaffirmed its support towards chamber endeavors in business progresses.
