Thailand has formally proposed Bangladesh to provide cooperation for the development of the dairy sector as Bangladesh has 75 per cent shortage in terms of milk production, reports BSS.
The proposal was formally placed to Bangladesh while Thailand's newly appointed envoy in Bangladesh Miss Panpimon Suwannapongse met with Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Sayedul Haq at his ministry office here yesterday.
"Thailand is agreed to provide modern training to the livestock farmers including supplying feeder and technological cooperation in dairy sector through CP Bangladesh Ltd, a national company of Thailand working at 25 countries in the world", said an official release quoting the Ambassador of Thailand.
At the same time, the fisheries and livestock minister has proposed the newly appointed envoy of Thailand to invest here directly in milk production as the country has 75 per cent deficit in milk production. The minister also underscored to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries in this regard.
In reply to the minister's proposal, the new Thai envoy has assured the minister to carry out a feasibility study in this regard and said "necessary measures will be taken to hold a emergency visit to Thailand to see the fisheries and livestock sector by the Minister", said the release.
Giving emphasis on 'fish-fin' fisheries processing in Bangladesh, Haq said "the country has enough opportunity to export fish-fin fisheries in abroad and it has a huge demand in abroad, saying that Thailand can invest in this sector as country has only two processing centers."
Highlighting the 4th position of Bangladesh in fish production in the world, the minister said Bangladesh has already achieved 'no objection certificate' from the European Union (EU) for exporting quality fishes in Europe.
High profile officials including Director General of the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Syed Arif Azad, Fisheries and Livestock Secretary M Maksudul Hasan Khan, on behalf of Thailand Minister Counsellor Phasit Chudabuddhi, CP Bangladesh Ltd President Suchat untipade, Advisor of CP Bangladesh Ltd Dr Abdul Baki, among others, were present at the meeting.
