New business faculty dean at ASAUB
Prof Iqbal Ahmad, former professor and director, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka has recently joined ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) as the dean, Faculty of Business, says a press release.
He served as a teacher in IBA, University of Dhaka for 38 years.
Prof Iqbal Ahmad has earned his BSc (Hons) and MSc from the University of Dhaka. After that Prof Ahmad earned his Post Graduate diploma in Industrial Relations and Labour Economics from ISS, The Hague, Holland and MSc in Industrial Administration (Major in Marketing) from Aston University, UK.
He also served as the Director of Bangladesh Biman and Sadharan Bima Corporation. He served as a Neutral Member of Minimum Wages Board. Prof Iqbal Ahmad also worked as the Consultant of different local and international organizations, including Asian Development Bank and World Bank. He has authored many books on human resource management, industrial relations and labour movement, organizational behavior, personnel management etc. He has many publications in local and international journals at his credit. A freedom fighter, Prof Ahmad is dedicated to social services and associated with the Rotary Club of District 3281.
ULAB holds public lecture
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a public lecture on ‘The decline of radical development NGOs in Bangladesh’ on its campus at Dhanmondi in the capital on Wednesday, says a press release.
Professor David Lewis of the London School of Economics and Political Science's South Asia Centre/Department of Social Policy as a keynote speaker discussed the role of some renowned local NGOs in the development of rural people in Bangladesh and the causes behind a decline in their activities.
He explained that some NGOs such as Proshika, Gonoshahajjo Sangstha, and Samata, who were at their peak during the 1990s and early 2000s, are now have faded from view, or evolved into organisations primarily engaged in microcredit delivery work.
The reasons for their decline included ---difficult political environment, disruptive practices of some foreign donors and weaknesses with their leadership and management systems.
Vice -Chancellor of ULAB Professor Imran Rahman gave introductory speech. Professor HM Jahirul Haque, Pro-Vice Chancellor of ULAB; Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam, Registrar of ULAB; ULAB professors; faculty members; admin and students were present in the programme.
BAU goes on 18-day vacation from today
MYMENSINGH: Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) will go on a 18-day vacation from today on the occasion of holy Ramadan, Jumatul Bida, Shab-e-Qadar and Eid-ul-Fitr, read a press release. All schedule classes and exams will remain suspended till July 10 and the university will resume on July 11.
However, administrative activities will continue and the offices will remain open until July 30, the release added.
The student dormitories will be vacated on July 4 and will reopen on July 9, told the convener of provost council Prof Dr Suvas Chandra Das
