Members of Airport Armed Police (AAP) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport foiled a foreign currency smuggling bid seizing foreign currencies worth around Tk1.40 crore from two Malaysia-bound passengers prior to their boarding a flight on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The arrested passengers are Samar Uddin, 41, and Md Ismail, 31.
Airport Armed Police (AAP) members challenged the two passengers seeing their suspicious movement near departure gate no-3 around 9pm.
They were scheduled to fly for Kuala Lampur by an aircraft of Bangladesh Biman Airlines, said Assistant Superintendent of Police of Airport Armed Police (AAP) Tanjina Khatun.
After a search, the Airport Armed Police (AAP) members recovered foreign currencies of various countries, mostly Saudi Arabian, from inside their shoes, she added.
During interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they had been involved in currency smuggling for long, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tanjina added.
