The life store “Shoilee”, has been the dream workshop for Tahmina Shaily. She has remained at the helm of the company’s design vision, helping to reinvigorate its product lines over the years. The creative entrepreneur for Shoilee is passionate jewellery designer, and the store houses with beautiful jewellery collections of ethnic and tribal styled necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, waist accessories, dresses, apparels, etc.
When she first told her parents that she left her job and wanted to focus fully on her business, they became worried. Her father is both a painter and a photographer and her mother is very proficient in handicraft work.
She used to make her own clothes from a very young age. After her marriage, her husband told her that the way she dressed up or accessorise was unique and people used to notice her clothing and jewellery. Her marketing major and a brief stint with one of the biggest marketing company has gradually upgraded her managerial ability as marketing manager.
In 2009, Tahmina started the Facebook page of Shoilee, before that she used to sell products from her home. She used to make the products, take photos of the products, upload it on Facebook and that’s how she sold her products. In 2010, she fully focused on just jewellery making. She didn’t start Shoilee with lots of investment and planning like most entrepreneurs and grew slowly.
The striking raw materials of this jewellery are imported from China, Bhutan, Nepal and different parts of the world but the designs also include local beads. The hand woven sarees are made with cotton, silk, and muslin has re-lived the excitement of artists’ touch with motifs ranging from Africa to Bangladesh. She showcased her spring-summer series called ‘Spondon’ which concentrates on colors basic, trendy and designs inspired from nature in the workshop cum exhibition “Uddyog” organised at The Westin, Dhaka.
The only challenge of Shoilee is to make people understand the concept of tribal jewelry. Tribal jewelry is also exclusive items, like gold and silver. All the jewelries are handmade. She started her clothing line based on the jewelries she makes. Shoilee currently employees 37 people, from whom 31 are women. There was no specific person who inspired her, mostly nature, music and books inspires her. Her parent used to listen to classical music, so she became very fond of music from a very young age. Tahrima’s future plans with Shoilee includes setting a proper lifestyle shop of Shoilee, where people will find everything, handicraft items, music café, small cinema hall, etc.
She wants to inspire people that a single person can grow into an entrepreneur with proper dedication. She wants Shoilee to be the brand that inspires people, mainly girls so that they can start their own business from scratch. From her venture, people should get the vibe that they will not just do their job but they will provide satisfaction. Tahmina stated, “The most challenging factor for any entrepreneur is proper planning and utilisation of the plan in reality, as every business has a separate framework.”
