Dhaka mayors get status of minister

The government has upgraded the status of the two mayors of Dhaka to minister level. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokan and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Hoque will get minister’s status while Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has been given the status of a deputy minister. The Cabinet Division yesterday issued a gazette notification in this regard. According to the notification, salaries and other allowances of the mayors would be provided as per their status. Earlier, on July 14, 2013, a local government division order was issued that fixed the remunerations, house rent and other facilities for mayors in Dhaka and other city corporations as per section 18 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009. No mayor was given the status of a minister of deputy minister.
