Shibir man confess to killing

An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir confessed to murdering Hindu priest Ananda Gopal Ganguli at a Jhenidah court yesterday, said police. After the arrested Shibir leader was produced before the country yesterday evening, ICS activist Enamul Haque gave the statement that he along with two others took part in the killing mission, said Superintendent of Police in Jhenidah Altaf Hossain at a press briefing at his office yesterday evening After getting tipped off over the murder, a police team arrested Shibir activist Enamul Haque from Gabtoli area in Dhaka on Monday night, he added. Enamul Haque, 28, of Armukh village under Jhenidah Sadar upazila was the ward committee secretary of Shibir in Jhenidah Municipality. Enamul and his family lives in Hamdah Mollapara area of the municipality.
 Enamul was produced before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Jahangir where the arrested under the section 164 confessed that he and two others youths took part in the killing mission of Hindu priest Ananda Gopal Ganguli following the decision of the seven-member committee of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the students wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, said the police official.
The police SP said, in his statement in court, Enamul also admitted that he was involved in the killing mission of Homoeopathic physician, also a converted Christian Khawza Samir alias Jamir at Kaluhati village in Jhenaidah Sadar and Shia Muslim Abdur Razzaque at Chapali village in Kaliganj municipality of Jhenidah earlier.
Additional Superintendent of Police Azbahar Ali Seikh, Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jhenidah Sadar Circle Gopinath Kanzilal and Jhenidah Sadar Police Station Officer In-charge Hasan Hafizur Rahman, among others, were present during the press briefing.
Hindu priest Ananda Gopal Ganguli was murdered by unknown assailants at Sonaikhali village in Jhenidah sadar upazila on June 7. Hours after the murder, US-based SITE Intelligence Group quoted Amaq to report that Islamic State claimed responsibility of the murder.
Ganguly set out from his Karatipara residence by a bicycle for Siddheswari Kali Temple for offering prayers there. When he reached Mahisher Bhagar around 9:30, three people riding a motorbike intercepted him. The assailants attacked Ganguly in the head and hands with sharp weapons several times, slit his throat and left the body in a paddy field.
