Chinese delegation meets DU VC
A four-member delegation led by Professor Zhang Wangxi of Beijing Language and Culture University, China called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique on Monday at his office of the university.
Other members of the delegation were Prof Fang Ming, Yang Fan and Zhang Jielin of the same university of China. Associate Prof of DU Institute of Modern Languages M Afzal Hossain was present on the occasion.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on Chinese language and culture between Dhaka University and the Beijing Language and Culture University.
They underscored the need for strengthening language and cultural exchange programmes between the two institutions. They agreed to open four-year Honours course on Chinese Language and Culture at Dhaka University very soon with the support, help and cooperation from China.
Exchanges of teachers, students and researchers between Dhaka University and Beijing Language and Culture University were also discussed in the meeting.
Prof Arefin Siddique said Confucius Institute was established at DU recently to offer "Confucius China Studies Programme". He thanked the guests for their visit to the university.

Award giving ceremony held  
The annual cultural function and award giving ceremony 2016 of Saint Jude's international School was held at Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of the Central Public Library in the capital on Saturday, says a press release.
ATN BANGLA programme adviser Nawazish Ali Khan was the chief guest of the function.  
The school principal, Augustine Cruze chaired the function while Hasina Akter delivered the welcome speech. Senior teachers and guardians also spoke.
The programme started with the national anthem. The events of the function were song, dance, acting and recitation.  The chief guest and principal later distributed prizes and report cards among the students.
