Man’s death in road crash sparks protest

Local people blocked Sonaimuri- Laksam road and torched a pick up van in Bogadia Bridge area of Sonaimuri upazila protesting the death of a man in a road accident yesterday morning. Abdul Gafur, 46, a resident of Bogadia village and an employee of Sonaimuri upazila health complex, was killed as the mango-laden pick-up hit him on the road around 7am, leaving him dead on the spot, said Haniful Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station. As the news spread, local people took to the streets and torched the killer pick up van. They also laid a barricade on the road. On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot.
