A four-member delegation, led by Prof Dr Zhang Wangxi of Beijing Language and Culture University, China, met Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter’s office of the university yesterday, reports UNB. Other members of the delegation were Prof Fang Ming, Yang Fan and Zhang Jielin of the same university of China, a DU press release said. Md Afzal Hossain, Associate Professor of the Institute of Modern Languages of Dhaka University, was present on the occasion.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs on Chinese language and culture between Dhaka University and Beijing Language and Culture University.
They stressed strengthening language and cultural exchange programmes between the two institutions. They agreed to open four-year honours course on Chinese Language and Culture at Dhaka University with the support from China.
Exchanges of teachers, students and researchers between Dhaka University and Beijing Language and Culture University were also discussed in the meeting.
Prof Arefin Siddique said Confucius Institute was established at the DU recently to offer “Confucius China Studies Program”. Friendly relations, language and cultural ties and mutual cooperation have been prevailing between Bangladesh and China for long time, he pointed out.
The DU VC thanked the guests for their visit to and keen interest in providing help and cooperation to Dhaka University.
