Even though Abahani Limited made them hot favourite to win the DPL title, Prime Doleshwar kept them in the race after clinching a thumping 91-run win over Victoria Sporting Club yesterday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah.
Riding on opener Roquibul Hassan’s 96 ball-100, Doleshwar compiled a huge 333 for five after which they shot Victoria out for 242 in 45.2 overs.
Doleshwar lost its inform opener Imtiaz Hossain cheaply in the first over of the innings with the scoreboard reading eight for one. Roquibul, aided by Rony Talukdar resisted the rot with 70-run partnership that set the platform.
After Rony was dismissed on 36, Roquibul made yet another 124-run partnership with Indian recruit Sachin Baby. Roquibul hit 10 boundaries in his 100 what he brought up with 95 balls. But he was dismissed just after he reached the three digit figure.
His dismissal brought up Nasir Hossain in the crease and the scoreboard got the pace what was badly needed at that phase. Nasir was unbeaten on 73 off just 42, hitting nine fours and two sixes. Sachin Baby made 64 off 92, sending the ball across the ropes for six times. However Nasir’s innings was pivotal to help Doleshwar propel past 300 runs.
With the huge target on the board, Victoria made a serene start with their first three batsmen making half-century but at least one should hit century if they stay alive into the game. However none of them carried their start which was the reason of their humiliating defeat.
Opener Abdul Majid made 50 and shared 99-run opening stand with Jubair Ahmed who also scored 56. One down batsman Mominul Haque hit 57 ball-61 with three fours and two sixes. Mohammedan Sporting Club meanwhile came back to the winning-way after three straight defeats as Ariful Haque hammered a brilliant unbeaten 103 off 99 to help the side secure a nervy one-wicket victory over Prime Bank Cricket Club at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Sabbir Rahman hit 66 ball-77 as Prime Bank was bowled out for 244 in 48.4 overs. Mohammedan was in danger with the top order failed to make impact. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim made 50 to keep the side in contest but it was Ariful Islam who held his nerve in the last over to help the side get over the line. He struck two sixes and six fours, last of which sealed the deal.
