Nazmul lashes out at Faruque
for resignation decision

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon lashed out at the national team chief selector Faruque Ahmed for his decision to step down from the post, stating that Bangladesh cricket had recently achieved an unprecedented success based on the players discipline and their performance.
According to him, the national team selection system didn’t contribute in country’s huge achievement, a thing what Faruque claimed as he decided to resign from the post, in  protest of two-tier selection process.
The president also made it clear that they won’t try to stop Faruque from his decision and said he hasn’t yet received the resignation letter.
“He wants to go. I didn’t receive anything officially,” Papon told the reporters in BKSP yesterday. “I didn’t make anything final yet (about his resignation). But I said again and again that selectors or we the directors, president are not important in Bangladesh’s tremendous success. There were two important things based on which Bangladesh got the success. One is the discipline and other is the players’ performance.”
“We introduced many fresh bloods in the team. They have changed the face of Bangladesh team. They started performing. How can we change them now.”
Under the new system the national team selection process was split into two parts—a three member selection committee that included cricket operations chairman Akram Khan at its convener and team manager Khaled Mahmud Sujon along with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. The selection committee will approve the team of the three-member selection panel headed by Faruque Ahmed before it was sent to BCB president for the final approval.
“If he resigns really, then there will be the question of discussion about it in the board but there is no question of discussion (at least in this matter). We didn’t get better bowling coach than Heath Streak. He went away but we didn’t discuss or stop him. There is nothing like hide and seek game here.  (If such things happen regularly) I will be forced to show you everything with proof.”
The president claimed they have legalised the process through which the selection activities were done in the past.
“It’s not a new system at all what he claimed,” the BCB chief argued. “If he said this, I have to ask him whether we didn’t change the team after they submitted the team. There were many instances that we have to sit again and again despite the team was finalised. I have to ask him also whether the team was approved before the signature of cricket operations. The process is not a new. That was old process but the system was unofficial. What we did, we made it official now. There is no difference.”
“We got the success under this process. So we’ll stick to it.” Papon reiterated.
The president revealed an incident with which he had differed with the selectors.
“How Mustafizur came to the team? They actually didn’t want to make Mustafizur debut against Pakistan. However I didn’t want to reveal everything. What I wanted to say is to we’ll stick to the system which gave us success.”
There was also the criticism about team manager’s inclusion to the two-tier selection panel. Papon also explained about it, “The manager will not select the team. Before any series, the coach and manager will present their requirement to the selector and they will select the team keeping the team’s requirement in the mind. It is the system under which the activities were done in the past. Shakib, Tamim never came to us, rather the manager conveyed to me what they needed. Yes captain could be there in the place of manager but I came to know after talking to the players that they are happy with it. If there is any problem, the captain could have complained but the I didn’t find any logic that the selector would have problem for the inclusion of the manager.”
